With a combined thirty-five years’ experience in film and television, James Ash and Errol Osman – founders of CREW ROOM ACADEMY – experienced first-hand how challenging it is to break into the industry without the right educational background, or industry contacts.

After completing his Media & Photography course at North West Kent College he began his broadcasting career as a  Technical Runner in the Post Production department at The London Studios in 2003. He worked in Post Production for the next 7 years starting as an Edit Assistant and rising through the ranks to Junior Editor and then into VTR as a Coordinator during the HD upgrades.

Errol moved into Studio Management in 2010 when he joined the Sales and Marketing team as a Junior Client Liaison Manager at The London Studios – the link between programme makers, production facilities and crew.

Errol progressed rapidly to become a key member of the Sales and Marketing team and was made full Studio Manager in 2011. Errol went on to manage a range of productions from ITV Studios live Daytime and Sport output to Entertainment Specials including Adele at the BBC (Shot at TLS), Have I Got News For You,  Saturday Night Takeaway and many more.

Having grown up in a single parent, low-income household without the prospect of being able to afford university fees, James was unsure of how to break into the industry. He is now passionate about working with youths who are interested in a career in media, but find themselves with limited resources and opportunities, for whatever reason.

He began his career aged 18 with a lucky break at a TV shopping channel. Fourteen years later he is a freelance Technical Director and Vision Engineer working across productions such as The Baftas, Brit Awards, Graham Norton, This Morning and Saturday Night Takeaway. He also travels overseas with sporting events – from the World Cup to Formula E.
